Online business registration in Alberta starts here: pick the registration you need, see the total price before you fill in a form, and we file it the same business day. Online Business Registrations Made Simple With ACS

ACS is a private company. We are not a government office or a registry agent. This hub covers the four ways to register a business in Alberta: incorporate a company, register a business name for a sole proprietorship or partnership, form a non-profit, or register a company that already exists in another province or country.

You answer a short online form and upload valid ID. A trained person reviews every filing before it goes to Corporate Registry, and complete orders received before 3:00 pm MT are filed the same business day. Every price is one total, with the government fee, consultation, preparation and filing included and no add-ons required; GST is added at checkout.

Register a Company in Alberta

Incorporating creates a corporation: a separate legal entity with its own name, directors and shares. Compare all eight types on the register a company in Alberta hub.

Register a Business Name Online

A business name registration under the Partnership Act records who is behind a name. It is not a corporation and it does not protect the name. See the register a business name in Alberta hub.

Register a Non-Profit Online

Incorporating a non-profit is a registry filing. Charity status is a separate application to the Canada Revenue Agency once the organization exists. Compare the options on the register a non-profit in Alberta hub.

Extra-Provincial Registrations in Alberta

A corporation formed outside Alberta must register here before it carries on business in Alberta, which includes soliciting business or keeping an office, warehouse or representative in the province. Start at the extra-provincial registration Alberta hub.

Not sure which one?

  • If you want a separate legal entity with its own name and shares, incorporate an Alberta corporation.
  • If you hold a professional licence and your accountant recommended incorporating, choose a professional corporation; the regulator's approval comes first.
  • If you are one person trading under a name other than your own, register a sole proprietorship.
  • If two or more of you share a business and do not want a corporation yet, register a general partnership.
  • If five or more of you have a community purpose and no plan to trade, incorporate a society; if the non-profit will run like a business, choose a non-profit company.
  • If you want charity status, incorporate first, then apply to the CRA.
  • If your company already exists in another province or country, register extra-provincially; BC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba corporations use the NWPTA route.
  • Still unsure? Call (403) XXX-XXXX and a person will walk you through it in a few minutes.

FAQs

What is the difference between registering a business name and incorporating in Alberta?

A business name registration under the Partnership Act records who is behind a trade name or partnership; it is not a separate legal entity and it does not protect the name. Incorporating creates a corporation under the Business Corporations Act, a separate legal entity with its own name, directors and shares.

Can I register my Alberta business entirely online?

Yes. Business owners cannot file in CORES, Alberta's Corporate Registry System, themselves, so you complete our online form and upload valid ID, and our CORES-trained agents prepare the filing and submit it through a licensed Alberta registry agent. There is no registry visit.

How fast is online business registration in Alberta?

Complete, error-free Alberta Corporate Registry filings received before 3:00 pm MT are filed the same business day. Professional corporations wait for the regulator first (CPSA quotes within 15 business days; CPA Alberta 15 to 20 business days), and federal and CRA applications run on their own timelines.

Can a non-resident register a business in Alberta?

Yes. Alberta has had no Canadian-residency requirement for directors since March 29, 2021, so a non-resident can incorporate here. The corporation still needs a physical Alberta registered office and an agent for service who is an individual located in Alberta, and we can provide both.

Pick your registration above and see the total price before you start. Questions? Call (403) XXX-XXXX (Mon–Fri 8:00–6:00 MT).
