Update head office on an Alberta registration: which addresses are on the record

When an out-of-province corporation registers in Alberta, its Statement of Registration (REG3055) and Notice of Agent for Service (REG3037) put three kinds of address on the Alberta record:

  • The head office in the home jurisdiction, where the corporation is run from.
  • The Alberta place of business, if the corporation has an office, warehouse or other premises here.
  • The agent for service's Alberta address, where legal documents for the corporation are delivered.

This service updates the first two. The agent for service is a separate notice; see agent for service changes.

The addresses matter because they are where Corporate Registry and anyone serving the corporation will look. A notice about a missed annual return sent to an office you left two years ago is a notice you never see.

New West Partnership corporations

A corporation from British Columbia, Saskatchewan or Manitoba is registered in Alberta through Alberta's Online Extra-provincial Registration. Address changes filed at home flow to Alberta automatically at no cost, so you usually do not need this filing. If your Alberta record still shows the old address after a home filing, call us and we will check it.

Who this is for

  • The Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic, territorial, federal or foreign corporation that moved its head office and needs the Alberta record to match.
  • The corporation that opened, moved or closed its Alberta office or warehouse.
  • The law clerk or paralegal maintaining a client's registrations in several provinces, who wants the Alberta filing confirmed the same day and partner pricing.

How it works

  1. Fill in the short online form: the corporation's name and Alberta registration details, the address that changed, the new address and the effective date. We confirm the registration with our free corporate lookup.
  2. A CORES-trained agent reviews the notice against the Alberta record within one business hour.
  3. We submit it through a licensed Alberta registry agent into CORES, Alberta's Corporate Registry System. ACS is a private company; we are not a government office or a registry agent.
  4. You receive the filed notice by email the same business day for orders received before 3:00 pm MT.

If a notice cannot be filed, our refund policy explains what happens.

Common mistakes we catch before filing

  • The head office changed but the agent for service's address entered instead, or the other way round.
  • A P.O. box given as an Alberta place of business.
  • The change left for the annual return. The return confirms the record; an address change is its own filing.
  • A home-jurisdiction change assumed to carry over. Outside the New West Partnership, it does not.

Checklist

What you need before you start

  • The corporation's legal name, home jurisdiction and Alberta registration details.
  • The new head office address or Alberta business address, and the date it took effect.
  • The current agent for service's details, so we can confirm they are still right.
  • A credit card. No registry login is needed, because owners cannot file in CORES themselves.

Requirements in Alberta

  • A registered extra-provincial corporation keeps the addresses on its Alberta record current.
  • The agent for service must remain an individual located in Alberta with an Alberta address.
  • New West Partnership corporations update through their home registry; all others file in Alberta.

FAQs

Which addresses are on my Alberta extra-provincial record?

The head office address in the home jurisdiction, the corporation's place of business in Alberta if it has one, and the Alberta address of the agent for service, as entered on the Statement of Registration and the Notice of Agent for Service. Each can be updated separately.

Does moving my head office at home update Alberta?

Only for New West Partnership corporations from British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, whose home filings flow to Alberta automatically at no cost. Every other extra-provincial corporation files the change in Alberta itself, which is what this service does.

Do I also need to change my agent for service?

Only if the agent for service has changed, or the agent's own Alberta address has changed. The head office and the agent for service are separate entries on the record with separate notices; if both have moved, we file both the same day.
