Director Address Change – Update a Director's Address on the Alberta Record

A director address change in Alberta is a short notice filed with Corporate Registry so the corporation's record shows where each director now lives. Send us the director's name and new address, and we file the notice the same business day for $149 + GST.

Why the Corporate Registry director address matters

Every Alberta corporation files a Notice of Directors at incorporation listing each director's name and address, and that information stays on the corporate record until a change is filed. The annual return confirms the directors and their addresses each year, so an address nobody updated is confirmed as correct, year after year, until someone notices.

A director who moves is not removed and re-added. The corporation files a notice updating that director's address. The directors themselves do not change, so no resolution appointing or removing anyone is needed.

Three separate addresses live on an Alberta corporation's record, and each has its own filing:

  • A director's address (this page).
  • The registered office, the corporation's own Alberta address where Corporate Registry sends its mail. Changed on a Notice of Change of Address.
  • The agent for service, the individual in Alberta who accepts legal documents for the corporation. Changed on a Notice of Change of Agent for Service.

Who this is for

  • The owner-director who moved house and wants the record fixed before the next annual return or a bank's review of the corporate search.
  • The corporation with several directors, one of whom has relocated, including out of province or out of Canada (Alberta has had no Canadian-residency requirement for directors since March 29, 2021).
  • The accountant, bookkeeper or law clerk keeping client records accurate, who wants the filed notice in PDF for the minute book and partner pricing.

How it works

  1. You fill in the short online form: corporation name or corporate access number, the director's name as it appears on the record, and the new address. We confirm the corporation's status with our free corporate lookup.
  2. A CORES-trained agent checks the notice against the current registry record so the director's name matches exactly.
  3. We submit it through a licensed Alberta registry agent into CORES, Alberta's Corporate Registry System. ACS is a private company; we are not a government office or a registry agent.
  4. You receive the filed notice by email the same business day for orders received before 3:00 pm MT.

If a notice cannot be filed, our refund policy explains what happens.

Common mistakes we catch before filing

  • The director's name spelled differently from the registry record, which makes the filing look like a new director.
  • The registered office changed instead of the director's address, or the other way round.
  • A change typed onto the annual return instead of filed as its own notice.
  • Several directors moved, one filed. We ask about every director before filing.

Checklist

What you need before you start

  • The corporation's legal name or corporate access number (both are on the Certificate of Incorporation).
  • The director's full name exactly as it appears on the current record.
  • The new address and the date the director moved.
  • A credit card. No registry login is needed, because business owners cannot file in CORES themselves.

Requirements in Alberta

  • Every Alberta corporation must keep its Notice of Directors current, including each director's address.
  • Directors must be adults; there is no residency requirement.
  • The annual return, due every year in the anniversary month of incorporation, confirms the directors and their addresses.

FAQs

Is a director's home address public in Alberta?

The address filed for each director forms part of the corporation's registry record, and that record is available to anyone who orders a corporate search. If privacy matters to you, ask us before filing.

How soon must a director address change be filed?

The Business Corporations Act sets a filing window for changes to director information. The practical rule is to file as soon as the director moves, so registry mail and legal notices reach the right place and the next annual return confirms a correct record.

Is this the same as changing the registered office?

No. The registered office is the corporation's own Alberta address and is changed on a Notice of Change of Address; a director's address is personal to that director and is updated on the directors' notice. If both have moved, we file both the same day.
